Selected Service Taps Undocumented Workers February 28th, 2018 immigration law | Tags: Application for Naturalization, citizenship, immigration law, military service | No Comments »The Selective Service System (the “System”) of the United States has made it clear that any man “ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S.” must register with the System for military service in the event of a draft.“You want to protect yourself for future U.S. citizenship and other government benefits and programs by registering,” the System announced on its Website, assuring those with deportation concerns that the System “does not collect any information which would indicate whether or not you are undocumented.”Those who want to apply for permanent residence or citizenship in the future would be well-served by registering. Technically, registration should occur within 30 days of a man’s 18th birthday, but the System will accept late registrations up through age 25.You can register at any U.S. Post Office, and you do not need a social security number to do so. People who have a duly issued social security number can register on-line.We are happy to assist individuals or families who might have questions about their immigration status, rights and responsibilities in connection with their quest for citizenship, permanent residence or a temporary work visa. Those seeking legal advice on immigration may call our offices at (847) 564-0712. You are also invited to check out the pertinent section of our Website for more information.
