Chinese students in USAAs reported in the AP (Associated Press, Washington, D.C.), hundreds of thousands of Chinese students in USA are swarming to colleges and universities here in America. These Chinese students in USA are driving the number of international students studying here to record levels.At the same time we are experiencing record levels of Chinese students in USA, there is an all-time high number of American students going abroad to study. Although these American students are far fewer in number and they don’t tend to stay abroad for several years like Chinese students, and others.Our State Department hired a nonprofit group to research Chinese students in USA and they say international education programs do more than advance cultural enrichment; they also are an economic boost to communities that host foreign students and to the students themselves, who improve their job competitiveness by going to school here in the USA.Foreign Money = BillionsForeign students contribute about $24 billion each year to the USA economy and about 2/3 of international students pay their own way, or their families pay for them.In 2013, about 819,644 students came to the United States to study abroad. This number is a record high and it’s a 7% increase from 2012 and a 40% from ten years ago.But although these numbers sound high, international students from across the globe studying in USA make up less than 4% of all students!Most of these international students came from these top five countries:ChinaIndiaSouth KoreaSuadi ArabiaCanadaChina: About 235,000 of the international students were Chinese students in USA, a 21 percent increase. A growing middle class in China combined with a view that America has quality colleges and universities were factors cited as driving the demand.“Chinese students and their parents are looking for high quality education, get the importance of international education, and it’s making America the No. 1 destination because we actually have the capacity to absorb international students,” said Allan Goodman, president and CEO of the institute.Saudi Arabia: The number of students from Saudi Arabia studying in the United States jumped 30 percent, to 45,000.
